Our drivers

In fact, the driver model is the opposite of instrinsic motivators. But still, they could have a strong influence on our social behaviour – even in work environments.

So if you’re a perfectionist who redoes everything, or you constantly push yourself to the limit. These underlying behavioral motivators are what psychologist Taibi Kahler called “drivers.” He added his concept to the transactional analysis pattern.

Kahler identified five core drivers:

  • Be Perfect: This drive pushes you to achieve flawless results, often leading to stress and procrastination.
  • Please Others: You prioritize making others happy, potentially neglecting your own needs or becoming a people-pleaser.
  • Try Hard: Constantly striving for improvement can be commendable, but it can also lead to burnout.
  • Hurry Up: This driver thrives on speed and efficiency, but it can create a frenetic work environment and overlook details.
  • Be Strong: Projecting an image of strength can be valuable, but it can also mask vulnerabilities and hinder communication.
